On Sunday, Jan. 26, at approximately 11:43 a.m., Officer Deion J. Dos Santos was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Pleasant and Lincoln streets when he witnessed a sedan fail to stop at a stop sign.
Officer Dos Santos activated his lights and siren. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued eastbound on Lincoln Street at more than 60 mph. Officer Dos Santos then terminated the pursuit at the direction of the shift supervisor for public safety reasons.
A short time later, Officer Dos Santos, who had turned his lights and siren off and was following the vehicle at a safe distance, witnessed the vehicle crash into another car at Pleasant Street and Beatrice Lane. Officer Dos Santos watched the operator, later identified as VIEIRA, flee on foot from the vehicle. He pursued VIEIRA, who resisted arrest. Officer Dos Santos, with the assistance of another responding officer, was able to take VIEIRA into custody.
Police searched VIEIRA’s vehicle and located and seized 36.7 grams of fentanyl, 18.3 grams of crack cocaine, $3,147 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.
VIEIRA was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court. His bail was revoked on a pending case in Plymouth Superior Court, and he is due back in court on Feb. 12 for a pre-trial hearing. He is being held at the Norfolk County Correctional Center.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
